From the Archives

(April 2005) In the hopeful news department, a group of immigrant tomato pickers has persuaded Taco Bell’s mother company (the poorly named Yum Brands, which includes Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, A&W, and Long John Silver’s) to increase wages for immigrant workers and impose a strict code of conduct on Florida tomato suppliers. After boycotts, the vice president of said poorly named corporation actually said “human rights are universal” and that, under Taco Bell’s new rules, “indentured servitude by suppliers is strictly forbidden.”
